HTC Windows Phone 8X

In case you did not know it yet, Windows Phone 8 is the next best thing ever invented since… I don’t know, iOS?  Well, maybe.

Or at least since the launching of the WP 8.1 flavor.  Now we’re talking business folks.  Besides a flawlessly running OS, the terminals themselves are engineered to…I dare to say perfection. Because all the major players in the manufacturing industry, like HTC, Samsung, Nokia or whatever, are trying to fight they way into the mobile OS market which is dominated by Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.

Microsoft’s answer to the giants in the industry was Windows Phone 8.1 and since the hardware required to run it properly is Redmond’s “dictate”, I can assure you that the user experience is top notch on almost any WP8 running device. Everything “just works”. Pun intended.

Now, if you’re a fan of the Windows Phone 8 platform or just want to give it a try (good news spread around pretty fast), a nice choice of a smartphone that features it is the HTC Windows Phone 8X, a very capable and good looking fellow that comes with a lot of goodies in its backpack and will be very happy to fulfill your needs. Follow the next review and see what exactly am I talking about.

The HTC WP 8X measures 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1 and has a weight of 130 grams. It looks pretty and seems to be nicely put together. The rubberized back is most welcome, as it offers a good hand grip and keeps fingerprints from sticking to your handset. For those of you who prefer a more youthful appearance, the HTC 8X is available in three more colors besides the Graphite Black: Flame Red, California Blue and Limelight Yellow. These are kinda wacky if you ask me, but I like them!

The frontal part of the body is dominated by a 4.3 inches S-LCD2 capacitive touchscreen that has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a 342 ppi pixel density and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2. The image quality is great, with some very wide viewing angles, vibrant colors and a good sunlight legibility.

As earlier mentioned, the smartphone features the Windows Phone 8, which is very friendly and wealthy when it comes to goodies, as it brings Zune independence, a deep integration for Xbox Live, multitasking, resizable tiles, an ample codec support, the Kids Corner for protecting your data and settings when allowing your kids to use your phone and so on. If using the phone for a while, you’ll find out yourself that the user experience is very pleasing.
The HTC 8X is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset, having a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor, Adreno 225 GPU, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The smartphone is very snappy and browsing through the interface goes smoothly, without encountering freezes or lag.

The HTC WP 8X comes packed with an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus that takes pictures at a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels, has a LED flash companion and a backside illuminated sensor for enhancing the low-light performance. The camera application features touch focus, geo-tagging, scenes, effects, settings for adjusting the white balance, ISO, contrast and so on. The photos produced by the HTC 8X are very good, offering accurate colors and good amount of resolved detail.
The smartphone’s video camera is great and produces some fine 1080p videos at 30 fps.
A 2.1 MP front facing camera is also joining the party and shoots 1080p videos.

For audio and video playback, you have some neat players that offer a great sound and video quality. The phone features the Beats Audio sound enhancement and offers a good audio quality, as for videos, it supports popular formats such as MP4, WMV, DivX and XviD..

Some other goodies found on the HTC WP 8X are a GPS receiver that has support for A-GPS and GLONASS and uses Bing Maps as a navigation tool. The Microsoft Office 15 is here to help the business class users with viewing and editing document files.
For surfing the web, you have an improved Internet Explorer that does a great job and makes browsing a pleasure.

In conclusion, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is very easy to like smartphone and a wise choice if you’re trying to “kick the habit” of using a, let’s say an iOS device.

The 8X comes with a handsome looking body that keeps inside a lot of features for keeping its master happy and satisfied and making for a real contender in the premium compact niche.
