It’s June, it’s summer! But for us, smartphone aficionados, this month not only marks the official beginning of the summer, but also the release of a brand new and exciting Sony flagship, the Xperia Z3+, which is also known as the Xperia Z4 in Japan.  The heir to the throne that was occupied until now by the Xperia Z3 was recently announced, in May, and brings some nice improvements over the last package of features, such as a Snapdragon 810 chipset, LTE Cat. 6, an enhanced front facing camera (5.1 MP vs 2.2 MP) and a slimmer profile. Of course, these updates aren’t major, and maybe that’s the reason why Sony only added a “+” to the last flagships’ name instead of boosting its number. Anyways, the handset promises to offer a better experience and, if you’re interested, keep reading and find out more about it. The Sony Xperia Z3+ (or Z4) measures 146 x 72 x 6.9 mm and has a weight of 144 grams, being slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor. The handset’s stylish design keeps the series’ tradition and consists in glass on both sides of the phone and an elegant aluminum frame which surrounds the entire body. Besides being attractive, the Z3+/Z4 is also a tough fellow through its IP68 certification for being dust proof and water resistant for up to 1.5 meters and 30 minutes. These capabilities are some of the key selling points of Sony’s flagships, so if you want to use your phone without any problems in the rain/shower/whatever, I’m guessing that this fella over here is tempting to say the least. Let’s carry on.The Xperia Z3+ features a 5.2 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 424 ppi. The Triluminous display is based on Sony’s X-Reality Engine and features oleophobic coating and a scratch resistant glass. Just like its predecessor, the current flagship offers a beautiful image quality with punchy colors, great contrast and an excellent brightness, which has been enhanced. Looking at it will surely bring pleasure to your eyes.At the software department, the Sony Xperia Z3+ comes packed with Android 5.0 Lollipop, which has been subtly customized here and there by Sony, as usual.
The lockscreen will welcome you with a clock widget, notifications and shortcuts towards the dialer and camera. Beyond the lockscreen is the homescreen, which holds a dock with five icons on its bottom, widgets and shortcuts.
The notification area is accessed with a  swipe down from the top and displays your notifications and with a double swipe shows the quick toggles and a brightness slider.
Your applications are listed in the App drawer and can be sorted by name, by most recently installed or by most used.In terms of hardware, the Sony Xperia Z3+ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, having a quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57 processor, Adreno 430 GPU, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 128 GB. Having this rich list of impressive specs under its hood, the device will deliver what everyone expects: a great user experience, offered by a proper flagship, free of any lag or other inconveniences. For taking photos, the Xperia Z3+/Z4 is equipped with the same camera found on its predecessor, namely a 20.7 MP snapper with autofocus that takes stills with a maximum resolution of 5248 x 3936 pixels and features a 1/2.3” Exmor sensor, an f2.0 aperture and a LED flash for helping in low light conditions. The photos produced will offer a very good image quality, with accurate colors and a high amount of resolved detail. Also worth mentioning is that, although the handset is slim, the camera lens isn’t sticking out, like we see on a lot of smartphones from nowadays.
The video camera is also very capable and will produce some pleasant 2160p videos @30 fps.
As I was previously saying, the front-facing camera is now a 5.1 MP snapper and will take some awesome selfies. Or you can just use it for video calls, like the rest of us serious folks. Some other features and apps that come on board the Xperia Z3+ are a GPS receiver with A-GPS, GLONASS and Beidou support, an FM Radio, Google Maps for navigation, Google Now as a personal assistant, Google Chrome for offering a proper browsing experience, Lifelog – an application which tracks your daily activities and displays the info on a timeline, a very capable and helpful Power management tool and much more.

The Sony Xperia Z3+/Z4 holds inside a non-removable 2,930 mAh battery and will endure two days under a regular usage.
